Repurposing A Broken Solar Light

It's summer again, and I couldn't be happier.  Out come the solar lights.  I love solar lights in the yard and in flower pots. It really gives the outdoor space a cozy feel. After a while though the kids will knock them over running through the yard and the bottoms that stick into the ground will break off.  It's hard to get them to stay in the ground without the spikes.
I'm going to show you how you can reuse the solar part of the light and place it on a mason jar seal.
My husband picked up these adorable vintage style Mason Jars at one of our local stores.  I thought these would be perfect for turning into solar lights.  I used my solar lights from last year with the spikes broke off.

Take the solar light off clear housing.

Next you will want to place the solar light on the seal and mark around it with a marker.  This will be your guide for cutting the hole.
Then you will take and hammer a hole in the center of the seal.  Now you can cut around your marked line.  I used my kitchen shears, they worked pretty well. You don't want the hole too big or the solar light will slide through the seal.  You will need it to be a little tight.  After you have your hole cut, place the seal over the solar light and push down until your solar light is almost flush with the seal.
Be careful with this step as the edges of the hold will be sharp. Do this step slowly. Leave a little of the solar light sticking up.  Place the metal band around the jar.  There you have it a solar light out of a mason jar and you didn't throw the old solar light away. These would look great with the blue mason jars as well.  I hope you enjoyed this post.  I can't wait to hear how your solar lights turned out.
